Jackson Hole Vacation

Let me first off say we aren’t skiers (at least anymore) so if that’s your jam you could have a bit of a different take than us.

Why Jackson Hole?

Jon has been a huge Ryan Bingham fan even before the world discovered his music via the hit to show Yellowstone. Over the past few years Bingham hasn’t been touring so when I did a Google search just before Christmas and saw that he and one of my all time favorite artists Elle King were both playing at the Rendezvous Music Festival I knew we had to go.

Where to stay?

There are really two parts to Jackson Hole (also called Jackson), Wyoming. There is the town of Jackson that has tons of restaurants and shopping. You’ll find the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar and antler archway landmark here. The second part is Teton Village. This is where the ski hill is and if attending Rendezvous the main event concert will be here. There are also some incredible restaurants in Teton Village. You’ll find lots of hotels here as well but they are pricer than most in Jackson. The drive between the two is about 20 minutes. We Had heard that on the night of the concert it was usually a mess trying to get back and forth between the two area so we stayed in Teton Village at the Continuum.

The Continuum positions itself as a luxury hotel and while is was nice it wasn’t without its cons. Not awesome service in the bar/restaurant, a huge dance party most Friday nights that you’ll easily here from your hotel room if your rooms are poolside, a heater that was temperamental. On the flip side the hot tub area is huge, the beds were super comfy and it was within walking distance to everything you needed.

One other thing to note: lots of restaurants in Teton shutdown the day after Rendezvous. On Sunday and Monday our eating options got really limited. Also, it isn’t inexpensive dining in Teton Village but the food was 5/5.

What to do?

This is a valid question if you aren’t a skier. Our main reason for going was the concert and it was fantastic. Except for the part where it snowed, and then thunder snowed and then there was 45 mile an hour winds and four songs into Bingham’s performance they called the show. At least we got to see Elle King and now are big fans of Futurebirds. We did buy Silver VIP tickets and they were 100% worth the money.

Elk Refuge: I was SO excited to take the sleigh ride thought the elk. You’ll drive past the refuge as you are traveling from the airport into Jackson. We saw the herd way off in the distance but the sleigh ride gets you up close. The only probably was despite looking at their website multiple times and seeing they were open into early April the closed for the season the very day we went to do this.

Corbet’s Cabin/Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Tram: just because you don’t ski doesn’t mean you can’t go check out the mountain. Corbet’s Cabin is at the top of the mountain/tram and serves delicious waffles (or so we’ve been told). When we went to purchase the sightseeing tram lift tickets and found out they were $50 a piece we said’ “Nah, I think we are good.”

Spas, snowmobile trips and wildlife tours are also all options.

So what did we do? We ate and drank some of the best food we’ve had. Check out this post for all our food recommendations.

Would we go back?

Maybe? Steamboat, Colorado is one of my favorite towns in both the summer and winter. If I had to pick from the two I would definitely choose Steamboat. If your heart is set on Jackson I would highly recommend getting there before the end of March as too many things are shut down by the last week of March/beginning of April.
