Building our Dream Home with Dream Home Construction

It has been on Jon and I’s minds for a long time to be living in a home that was more us. We had talked ad nauseam about how we would remodel our home on the farm. Anyone that has been through a remodel knows that while you can make big changes you are still confined to load-bearing walls, footprint, roof lines, etc. It felt crazy to spend so much money and still not get exactly what we wanted.

Buying the bowling alley was a long process. We began talking with the previous owner at the end of August. By October there was little change. We submitted our final offer at the end of October with a deadline to either accept or move on only days away we figured owning the alley wouldn’t be in the cards for us. We decided if we couldn’t have the alley we would turn towards building a new house on the farm. I remember Jon and I standing on our lawn envisioning this new home’s footprint and how it would sit. We also knew it would be black. We’ve always loved black. And then the very next day the offer was accepted. God always has a plan.

At that time we had no idea that we would be selling the farm and all of our cattle 10 months later.

Over the summer as Jon and I made the decision to sell the farm we also discussed where we would want to move to. In our minds, there was only one place to be and that was out by the River Ridge Golf Course in Independence. It is on the edge of town without being in town, tons of friends live in the area and we both spend all kinds of time on the golf course during the summer. Lucky for us there was still a buildable lot available across the road from the golf course’s housing development. It provided more land, backed up to a field, and wasn’t part of an HOA. Plus, we are going to have the best neighbors!

We were so excited to choose Dream Home Construction out of Cedar Falls, Iowa to be our builders. They have a unique approach to building, which I can’t wait to share more about. So far we have our floor plans and outside design. Interior selections will begin in March and we are hoping to break ground at the end of April.

The exterior couldn’t have turned out more perfect, and we are finally getting our black house!
